Hi.

Would like some honest (not suggesting that the manufacturers make up crap) feedback,

I have a pretty standard SP1, I suppose for fueling purposes it exactly standard.

Standard Airbox, Standard Filter, Standard Exhaust,

Will i notice ANY difference if i fit a power commander?

If so WOT?

Much Standard Thanks

It's a massive difference even on a standard bike. I assume your bike is quite jerky below 4k rpm? The powercommander fixes that, I can happily cruise through towns in 4th gear at 2k rpm. The fuel consumption is also much better, so after a while they do pay for themselfs.

Hi

I try not to let it go below 6/7K but then I've got 150 points on my licence. (joke).

Yeah it is very jerky, even to the point that i often feel that its stalling and clutch it on roundabouts etc.

What kind of tank range do you get out of interest, I'm not overly bothered by this as you don't buy an SP if your after tourer tank ranges but it would be nice to know,

Ta

SP1's are reknowned for being 1 bike that PC's do the job on really well. Most modern bikes it just adds a bit of extra power and snappiness (+ a bit more fuel economy) but on the SP1 a well set up one should smooth out the bottom end nicely and while not adding much extra power, probably adds +10% to the range of a tankful so usually pays for itself fairly quick if you do fairly decent mileage.

I had one on mine but thats mainly because i always fit them on my bikes out of habit. I picked up a used PCIIr (old version) on ebay for £112 , it did the job for 2 1/2 years, then removed it when i sold the SP1, put it on ebay and got £140 for it Grin

I can't speak personally for the SP1 (which I suspect it may have had a more noticeable effect on due to the reduction in injector numbers over the SP2) but on my SP2 it made a little difference to the snatchy response and a reasonable difference to the fuel numbers. It did improve the throttle response slightly over standard but nothing I was jumping up and down about.
You have to remember that the 1000 vtwin is never going to have a smooth linear feel to the power delivery, the pistons are obviously huge!

index.php/fa/16066/0/

That said, I would always fit one only if I was fitting a full system to any bike, other than that I wouldn't bother.

My Zook has one fitted because of the full system which made a huge difference to the throttle response, fuel I couldn't tell you because I don't get out on it much on the road. smile

the sp2 has 5 point injectors which made a lot of difference to the 3 point ones fitted to the sp1 i believe Thumbs Up

i fitted a power commander to my sp2 and as above thought it was ok but only ok as no wow thats amazing feeling. Confused

but i believe they make a big difference to the sp1 get one as the proof is in the pudding Wink

I fitted my PC3USB with a map Ferraci (Italian importer) did for Leovince slip ons.
While you won't see massive gains it "nipped and tucked" all those small holes in the power curve below 5000 rpm and improved fuel economy by 5-10% under any condition.
So in my case it was well worth the cost. Thumbs Up

Hi All,

thanks for the replies, As I said, mine is standard and I don't expect to be fitting exotic exhaust system ( mainly due to cost ) ( unless numbers come up Laugh )

I don't expect that I will be racking up anymore than 1- 2 k per year on it either and lets face it, wether i get 85 or 89 miles per tank is not really a vast difference, I supose unless the nearest petrol station is 4 miles away and then it would be pretty important.

Having said that will keep an eye out on flea bay and if one comes up in the kind of money kermit mentions might well pick up.

Will it make any difference which model I fit ?

I did look at the PC site a while ago, r they on PC3 now,

Yeah, 95% will be PC3 USB models which is the one to go for if you happen upon one cheap.

Mine was the a sort of PC2 / PC3 cross bred in that it could do the igntion mapping as well as fuel like PC3's [which is what the "r" stood for in PCIIr) but it used the older serial port tpye connection rather than the modern USB. As many laptops/pc's dont come with serial ports these days, its better to stick looking for a PC3 Thumbs Up

Hi

thanks,

I can't believe you use a laptop,

I was planning to use house pc, just when she's settling herself down to watch some mindless drivel on the box.

Can't imagine any reasonable woman would object to this can you? Laugh

As I'm typing this I've just remembered I've killed my laptop so maybe it will come to this after all! Blush

Hi All
Soz don't post much but I'm a little surprised by your answers of the "No Wow" type when talking about PC on an SP2.
I must ask, is that just on a supplied map or one down loaded off the net? I know they are supposed to be 90% tuned or were any of you talking about customs maps?
I'm just curious cause I've just had a full custom map done and the difference was instantaneous. Nearly an extra 10HP and 4lb torque. Engine spins up a lot nicer and an amazing 45 mpg at a steady 90-100 on the autobahn.

Cheers
Pete

Hi Pete - is this with different cans and interested to hear what max bhp did you register.

I tend to agree it is worth it, I had a custom map done and whilst overall performance increases were modest the bike rides far smoother with previous jerky fuelling by and large removed.

This was my SP2 (although they mistakenly label it as an SP1)

smile

SP2

NO 8.

Mine was also a custom map because of a carbon air intake, filter and pipes.

Hi Bluetin,
that's more like I would describe it Thumbs Up It's just more eager in every gear and as the revs rise it just pulls faster and faster. Twisted Evil Only registered 134 but the torque curve is nearly flat from 5k to the red line. I'm well pleased with the outcome and the sound, forgot to mention they are Sato low mounts Grin

Quazi,
My screen must be broke, I can't get past the first pic Blush Now there's a couple of nice torque curves Cool

Pete

just spent a long night shift at work reading selected old threads. i have read a few times now that the SPs ECU will pump extra fuel into the pots to reduce temperature when it reaches 100C. does anyone know if this still occurs if a Power Commander is fitted. somehow i think it wouldn't as the PC over rules the ECUs control of the injectors. this could be another benefit of fitting a PC and save the planet!!! Cool
