1) do i need to get the engine at TDC before removing old cct.
2) whats the locking tool thing and when do i use, it removing old or replacing new.
3) do i need to prime with oil or is it spring loaded

hi mate

right you use the locking tool to unload the old one.

then remove it the old cct that is.

then you use the locking tool on the new one to lock it fully in and insert it with gasket if you have a new one.

tighten the 2 bolts and then release the locking tool slowly.

fit the small bolt to the cct and job done. smile

its a good idea to rotate the engine through 360deg to make sure its all settled and away you go Thumbs Up

do not rotate the engine with the cct removed

Hi Riley,

Spin off question:

I took CCT out of stationary engine without locking tool, so would assume that tensioner has extended to fully out position,

Will tool allow me to reset "piston" to retracted position ?

or

Do I need new cct?

cheers

you simply wind it back Al so it can be re-used Thumbs Up

you have to wind em in as you will struggle to get the bolts in otherwise

btw you only need a small flat screw driver to wind the adjuster in as it will just lock at the end of travel Thumbs Up

Cheers Riley,

Is the screwdriver inserted through the hole the larger bolt comes out of?

(ie) not the cct mounting bolts.

iirc new CCT's come with a plastic insert locking the CCT in its retracted position to aid inserting it without a proper key so if your new one has this plastic bit on the end so if your new one has this in place don't be tempted pull it out till the new one is fitted as its only flimsy plastic and won't allow you to retract the CCT again.

Removing the old one without retracting it is fine, just be sure to undo the 2 bolts in an even manner.

Most manuals I've had (the CRF's cylmer and the 929's haynes) show you the dimensions required to make your own cct key out of metal approx 1-2mm thick which is what I've done crudely a few times I've need to remove and replace my existing cct's

take the small bolt out of the end and use a thin blade screwdriver

it should lock itself when you fully retract it as my blade one did Thumbs Up

When I fitted a new CCT to Gazk's CBR600FW I just removed the old unit & replaced the gasket & then fitted the new one.

TDC never came into it.

The new cct came with a tiny locking tab & was removed once fitted.

Taking the engine mounting plate & cable bracket off helped with access.
