I have an issue with the front brakes on my RRP.

I recently replaced the pads, fluid & copper washers on the lines & gave them a good bleed. I did have an issue with weeping bleed nipples [fluid coming from the threads, not the hole] but PTFE on the threads stopped it.

There must be air getting in somewhere because the lever keeps getting spongy. If I clamp the lever on & leave overnight it gets firm again; but then in a few days its spongy again.

I am not loosing any fluid.

Any suggestions on where to look before I start thinking about a new MC?

There be air in there somewhere mate.

I use a large syringe to reverse bleed systems, less likeley to get air in as it forces up the pipes and pushes the air out the top (res).

Well worth giving them another bleeding (do you have a kit or is it just pour in and leak out? Blush

Hi Swiss,

I'm thinking master cylinder seals.

http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/CBR900RRP-FIREBLADE-1993/ part_45620/

Supose it could be air trapped in system, but once its gone hard you wouldn't expect it to go soft again!

If your not loosing any fluid, can't see wot else it could b.

Wouldn't put a sec hand MC on as its probably no better than the one youve got.

All u need (apart from a few spanners) to change master cylinder seals is circlip pliers. JUst make sure seals go on right way round.

They are fine when bled; the air is getting back in afterwards.

id try a new master cylinder repair kit swiss

there only £20 (i think your mc must be drawing air in via the piston seal in the MC )

do you get any tiny sign of fluid where the lever goes into thr MC?

MC working parts & bleed nipples replaced.

No fecking difference. Confused

I washed the calipers in petrol a short while ago; is it possible it has ruined the piston seals?

I was using a degreaser bath to clean off some parts so just chucked them in; it never occured to me that it may ruin the seals.

Hi Swiss,

If your going to the trouble of changing all the seals, it may be easier to split both the calipers and change the sealing washers between the two halves.

Only prob is you need security tork sockets.
